I got a last minute offer from my colleague on Friday, 3 tickets to the NDP 08 – NE Show 1. She got 3 tickets from her friend but she decided not to go because her son is going for the NE Show 2 with his school this Saturday.
It has been ages since i went for NDP, actually i cant remember if i ever went to an actual NDP. I’ve been to a few previews, back in those days where people queue overnight and the queue snaked around the stadium. My cousins & I stayed up talking, waiting for daylight to come and the counters to open. We always asked for preview tickets because we can get more and more of us can go. We stopped queuing for the tickets since the new balloting system started. Subsequent years, Dino & I will just go and catch the fireworks, sometimes it’s just us, sometimes with my family. And I don’t even remember when did the ballot registration open for this year’s parade. So I grabbed the offer and the tickets without much thought.
Oh actually I’ve been to an actual NDP, but as a participant in the pre-parade and parade segment. It was in 1996, eekkks, that was 12 YEARS ago?!!!! (reality check!)
My favourite segments has always been the whole parade segment, including the black knights fly past and the fireworks. Everything else that is in between is quite forgettable. This year’s black knights airshow is AWESOME!!! I love it. Even Nardyne loves it, I think. Yes, Dino & I brought Nardyne along. She enjoyed the singing and dancing and the many colours on display. She slept through the post-parade shows, probably like her parents, she don’t care for it. But she woke up for the fireworks and finale.
We had fun, even though we left early so that we won’t be caught up in the jam caused by the road closure and made sure we got a parking lot at Marina Square even though the eventual parking fee cost us almost $10. It was fun because we got to sit at the very front row in the yellow sector (advantages of having a kid and a stroller). We even anticipated to leave Marina Square late but we were home close to 10pm. There will probably be no chance for us to watch the NDP live in the future so it was worth it, worth it to skip a class of Accounting & Finance
